Historic Photos

The longer I live in Bakersfield, the more it seeps into my being. It has a gritty sense of survival which is uncovered in stories of the Dust Bowl, the Great Depression, the Great Fire. There is a flavor of connectedness and endurance that breathes here and the thought of ever leaving makes me uneasy.
Kern County Museum has a nice collection of historic photos that tell a bit about the town’s past and at the same time its present. As I was looking for old photos of the area I realized that I was trying to getting a deeper understanding of Bakersfield. This must be a sign of settling down.
